Agenda post 2015

The Future We (really) Want: Lets build the future WE want together

We come together because 2015 is a generational opportunity for transformational change. Two processes (COP - UNFCCC and the finalisation of the post-2015 sustainable development agenda) culminate within months of each other with the potential to shape the future of our people and our planet.

  • We want a world where development justice is assured and all people are able to realise their rights.
  • We want a world where everyone is able to equally and freely participate in the decisions that affect their lives and hold governments, international institutions, the private sector, civil society and other power holders accountable.
  • We need to urgently address the challenges posed by economic and political systems that favour elites and concentrate power and prosperity in the hands of a few.
  • We must transform production and consumption patterns so that they do not harm people and the planet.

This is the world we want and believe can be achieved.

Felix Dodds comments on The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

We now have an agreement and a very good name for the agreement it will be calledTransforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This was important because of the ongoing discussion in the negotiations of taking poverty eradication out of sustainable development and then linking to it. It has been a major problem since 1992. The title makes it clear that poverty eradication is part of sustainable development.

2015/08/01 TRANSFORMING OUR WORLD: The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, Finalised text for adoption (1 August)

This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognise that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development.
